Knoxville nutritionist, health care provider react to inverted food pyramid

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – The Department of Health and Human services is turning nutrition guidelines on its head with an upside-down food pyramid, putting red meat first and carbs last.

“I do think a lot of us are so scared of carbs. Especially like when I was in high school, middle school, during that time, it was big,” said Krystal Goodman, a nutritionist who runs Klean Nourish. “Like low carb is huge, it’s going to make you lose weight and be afraid of carbs – and I don’t necessarily love seeing that.”

But that doesn’t mean you should stop making sourdough bread, in fact, it’s encouraged.

“Get something that is whole grain rather than your regular, simple carbohydrates. Things like quinoa, brown rice, wild rice, things like that,” said Goodman…
