$8.75M parking settlement could bring relief to frustrated drivers in downtown Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Knoxville drivers could soon see some relief when it comes to downtown parking. The Tennessee Attorney General’s Office has announced an $8.75 agreement with Metropolis Technologies, the company that oversees several parking lots and garages in downtown Knoxville.

The settlement includes things like refunds, free parking credits, and required changes to improve transparency moving forward. 6 News spoke with Knoxville residents who shared downtown parking frustrations.

“Downtown parking has, over the decades, been the issue. It’s the reason people don’t come to downtown,” said Tim Yates, a Knoxville man who works downtown.

Two years ago, the Tennessee Attorney General’s office launched an investigation into Metropolis’ parking practices after more than 300 complaints across the state, including 17 from Knoxville, about unclear pricing and poorly marked lots…
