Tennesseans divided as state’s minimum wage remains at $7.25

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — More than a dozen states started the New Year with a new minimum wage. Tennessee was not one of them. The state has remained at the national minimum wage since it was established in 2009.

Tennessee lawmakers have tried in the past to raise the minimum wage to $15 or $20. It’s an effort to keep up with the cost of living and ensure people make a livable wage.
