New Anderson County emergency chief says ice storm could be catastrophic

Anderson County Emergency Management Agency’s new Director Joe Mead says the coming winter storm could be devastating for residents and they should spend the hours before it hits – perhaps as early as 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 – making preparations.

Fuel your vehicles in case you have to get out, but stay off the roads once the icy preparation begins to fall, he told The Oak Ridger Friday afternoon. People who get on the roads will be endangering their lives and those of first responders who may have to get out to try and help others.

If you have a generator, he said, make sure it has fuel. Make sure your cell phones are charged. Charge your power banks, if you have them, for your cell phones…
