KPD: Man dead after vehicle sinks in Tennessee River

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — A man has been pronounced dead after Knox County rescuers pulled him from his vehicle as it sank into the Tennessee River Sunday afternoon, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

The Knoxville Fire Department and KPD responded to Gov. Ned McWherter Park around 1:45 p.m. after a reported black vehicle was spotted sinking into the Tennessee River near the park boat ramp, officials said.

KFD said when they arrived, the vehicle was already fully submerged. The Knox County Rescue Squad was then called in, and divers were able to pull the driver from the vehicle…
