TDOT spends $2.5 million treating roads in East Tennessee during winter storm

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Tennessee Department of Transportation has released figures associated with its response to the winter storm that impacted the entire state last weekend.

According to TDOT’s Mark Nagi, crews used 13,154 tons of salt and 339,000 gallons of brine to treat roadways in the department’s Region 1, which includes 24 counties in East Tennessee.

Brine is a mixture of salt, water and an additive that is applied to roads ahead of winter storms, while salt is applied once snow begins to fall…
