KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Finding something fun to do as a family can get expensive fast. Parents we spoke with said even a simple outing can add up quickly, especially with young kids. But there are free options around town if you know where to look, and the Knox County Public Library system is one of the easiest places to start.
Library staff say many people think of the library as just books, but a library card can unlock far more like movies and music, digital resources, and family-friendly programs throughout the week.

The library system also offers ongoing events for kids, teens, and adults, including story times and activity programs. Parents told us those free, reliable options can be a lifesaver during the week, especially for families looking for something to do that does not cost anything. Beyond the building, the library also offers experiences that help families get out and explore.
One example is the Explore Pass program, which can give cardholders access to local attractions and activities. For families who want to take advantage of the outdoors, the library also has Storybook Trails, where kids can read a story while walking through parks and nature areas.
