Article on Don Lemon’s arrest avoided facts | Letter

The USA Today article “Journalists at MN church protest arrested” (Jan. 31) had many untruths and − I hate to say it − outright lies. The group that invaded a church service in Minnesota clearly violated the FACE Act, which was enacted by Congress in 1994. This was not mentioned at all in the article. The law makes it a federal crime to intentionally damage, destroy or interfere with property at a place of worship.

Notice that the law does not offer an exception for journalists as described in the article saying that their arrests were “clear warning shots aimed at other journalists.” Untrue! An argument could be made that none were journalists, but no matter, they violated the law.

Also, protester Nekima Levy Armstrong told Don Lemon the church was “harboring someone who is directing ICE agents to wreak havoc upon our community.” Again, untrue!…
