Permanent protection secured for historic Knoxville building

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A historic Knoxville building on W. Jackson Avenue, known as The Standard, has been placed under a preservation easement to ensure the 1930 building is protected for years to come.

On Thursday, Knox Heritage shared that it had collaborated with GBX Group LLC, which recently acquired The Standard, to secure the easement.

The Standard is located at 416 W Jackson Avenue and was originally built for manufacturing. The building once housed The Standard Glass Company, which it continues to hold the name of. In recent years, The Standard has become an event space, hosting a variety of events including weddings, galas, the Artsclamation! art sale and more.

Through a preservation easement, Knox Heritage and GBX Group have a voluntary, legal agreement to protect the building. This agreement gives Knox Heritage certain rights and responsibilities associated with the perpetual protection of the property, the nonprofit organization explained.

GBX Group specifically states on its website that it revitalizes historic buildings in urban communities, meaning the history of the building is preserved while modernization meets the needs of future generations.
