LaFollette nurse shares battle with heart condition: ‘Never heard heart sounds that sounded like mine’

LAFOLLETTE, Tenn. (WATE) — February is American Heart Month, a time to focus on cardiovascular health as many Americans fight heart conditions each and every day. A LaFollette woman shared her journey through multiple life-threatening heart diagnosis with 6 News.

“People always say, ‘well, are you having a good day?’ Any day is a good day. I’ve got a heart beating. I’m above dirt. It’s a good day. No matter what happens, it’s a good day,” said Judy Lane, a Heart Survivor with the American Heart Association.

Nurses speak out as Sweetwater Hospital closes labor and delivery department

Lane is a registered nurse and works as an employee health nurse at LaFollette Medical Center. In 2024, she started noticing problems with shortness of breath, fatigue, wheezing. One day, she decided to listen to her heart with her own stethoscope.

“I’m a 40-year nursing veteran. I had never heard heart sounds that sounded like mine. And I said, ‘oh, that’s not good,’” she explained…
