DA: Blount County woman pleads guilty to selling drugs that resulted in man’s death

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Blount County District Attorney’s Office said a woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to selling drugs that resulted in a man’s death.

According to DA Ryan Desmond, Madeline Merriman pleaded guilty to reckless homicide, delivery of fentanyl and delivery on ANPP on Friday.

Desmond said the drugs Merriman delivered in Blount County led to the death of Dakota Hinton in January 2025.

“The District Attorney’s Office reiterates our desire to hold drug dealers accountable,” Desmond said. “The victim’s mother spoke eloquently at the sentencing hearing and tearfully reminded the court and everyone present that the scourge of drug use in our community harms not only the user but the families who just want to see their loved ones break the cycle of addiction.”…
