FIRST ALERT- Widespread Rain Moves In Sunday—Then Get Ready for Record Heat

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A real Sunday soaker sets in with much needed rainfall expected. Then spring-like warmth settles in with highs approaching potential records. No significant rain expected in the upcoming work week.

Sunday: Widespread Rain Expected—0.5 to 1.5 Inches Possible

Plan for a Wet Sunday

An area of low pressure moving through the Tennessee Valley will bring rain to the area starting late Saturday night with scattered showers, then widespread steady rain Sunday morning. Rain will move from southwest to northeast throughout the day.

What you should know:

  • Timing: Rain begins late Saturday night and spreads through Sunday morning
  • Amount: 0.5 to 1.5 inches expected, with isolated higher amounts possible along the Escarpment
  • Duration: Rain clears from west to east, ending between 9 PM Sunday and 1 AM Monday
  • Temperature: Colder air moving in could bring a brief mix of snow and rain early Sunday morning in the western NC mountains, but no accumulation is expected

The Drought Silver Lining

Because of our ongoing drought conditions and very dry soil, flooding and hydro impacts are not expected. The region could actually use this moisture, though one rainfall won’t break the drought.
