Often, I’ll see a restaurant on my to-do list and have no recollection of how I first heard about it. Such was the case with Sicilia Pizza, a family-owned business in Oak Ridge. But as a huge pizza lover, I didn’t need much context to take on the assignment. The Grub Spouse and I headed up that way for dinner last week.
The facility itself could best be described as a classic hole-in-the-wall establishment, occupying a rear basement space in an older retail plaza across from the local high school. Inside, the décor was bare bones, but one of the owners greeted us with a warm and friendly welcome from behind the counter and invited us to peruse a menu at the table of our choice.
The offerings cover a lot of ground in the realm of Italian cuisine. The appetizers are generally of the deep-fried variety, ranging from cheesy bread and chicken tenders to mozzarella sticks and garlic mushrooms. The Lyla Bites are dough balls seasoned with garlic butter and Parmesan cheese and served with marinara. Also on the menu are chicken wings, salads and sub sandwiches in multiple varieties — Cajun chicken, Italian, meatball and Philly chicken or steak, to mention a few…
