‘Growing pains’ TDOT begins I-75 interchange project as businesses brace for traffic impact

POWELL, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has officially started reconfiguring the I-75 interchange at State Route 131. The project is designed to handle heavy traffic more efficiently, but with construction now underway, some businesses near the site say they’re seeing driving delays.

While many businesses say they’re optimistic about the long-term improvements, some tell 6 News the initial short-term impact has been noticeable, with traffic slowdowns hitting harder for certain businesses than others.

“We are going to work through the growing pains of Emory Road. We love our location on Emory Road. So, we’re excited to see what the new construction brings,” said Taylor Ackermann, the Assistant Manager at Steel Threads Boutique on Emory Road…
