Appetizer: A word on The Black Dog from Joanna Hayes
I went to the soft opening of The Black Dog, a restaurant, brewery and cocktail bar, last weekend with my roommate. The new restaurant is just north of the Happy Holler neighborhood, minutes from where we live. But because it’s on the outskirts of the neighborhood, past spots like The Marlowe, Zero Zero Wine Bar and Central Flats and Taps, it’s not a place you really stumble upon.
We drove past the normal area where we would stop at for drinks and parked outside The Black Dog. We walked up to the building, whose windows were plastered in old newspaper clippings, and had no idea the atmosphere that existed inside. I opened the door, and a soft, yellow light poured out. Bob Dylan played over the speakers, and every guest had paired the perfect drink with their perfect meal. It goes to show that sometimes you need to drive a little bit further to find the next best restaurant.
