‘Our whole goal is to preserve the Powell community’ | Community members still aren’t satisfied with proposed elementary school rezoning plan

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knox County School officials finalized a proposed rezoning plan after a community input meeting last month. The plan would rezone at least 200 students from Powell Elementary School to Brickey-McCloud or Karns Elementary Schools.

Leaders said if approved, the new zones wouldn’t go into effect until the 2027-2028 school year, giving affected families and schools a year to prepare. They also added two special transfer provisions.
