New Tennessee Valley Authority board chair chosen after Bill Renick resigns

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Valley Authority Board of Directors has chosen a new Chair of the Board after the previous chair resigned.

Director Mitch Graves will serve in the role until April 1, 2027. Then, following his term, Director Jeff Hagood will serve as Chair-elect. Both men joined the board after being confirmed by the Senate in December 2025. Their terms will end on May 18, 2029.

The former board chair, Bill Renick, resigned on February 24. This followed President Donald Trump’s overhauling of TVA leadership in 2025. The board voted last month to continue operating all of its coal-fired power plants, reversing previous plans to close coal units like the Kingston Fossil Plant in Roane County.
