Rifle stolen in 1973 reunited with original family in Knoxville after more than 5 decades

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — When a family heirloom goes missing for more than five decades, most assume it will be gone forever; however, a rifle recently bought for over $31,000 has made its way back to its original owner.

Property Crimes Detective David Ogle with the Knoxville Police Department recently returned a gun stolen more than 52 years ago to the family of its original owner.

KPD said James Slocum’s home was robbed in 1973 and 16 guns were taken from his father’s collection. Several were eventually recovered, but one “prestigious and rare” piece remained unfound, a Winchester Model 1895…
