Bassmaster Classic competition takes off in Downtown Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Bassmaster Classic fishing competition took off in downtown Knoxville Friday morning.

The official takeoff from Volunteer Landing was scheduled to take place at 7:45 a.m. Friday. The competition is also scheduled to have takeoffs on Saturday morning and Sunday morning at the same location.

On Thursday, leading up to the start of the competition on Friday, the Bassmaster Classic held a Celebrity Pro-Am competition. This paired celebrities like Olympic gymnast Brody Malone, professional wrestler Bron Breakker, former pro-football player Randy Moss, singer-songwriter Koe Wetzel and more with professional anglers to make up 25 teams.

Following the weigh-in on Thursday evening, NASCAR driver Ross Chastain won the competition alongside professional angler David Mullins with an 18-pound-two-ounce fish. It was Chastain’s third time participating in the competition…
