BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — Officials identified the body of a man hunters found dead in a woodsy area of Blount County in 1981 more than four decades after his death.
Authorities with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said they, along with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office and the University of Tennessee Forensic Anthropology Center, learned the name of a man unidentified for 45 years.
The man’s body was found in the East Miller’s Cove area of Blount County on April 4, 1981. Officials said a sample of the remains was submitted to the University of Texas Center for Human Identification in 2007, but it did not provide matches. In the last year, officials then submitted a sample of the remains to Othram, a private laboratory in Texas, for forensic genetic genealogical DNA testing.
