KNOXVILLE — The East Tennessee Veterans Memorial Association’s 15th Annual Medal of Honor Evening will honor the service of World War II Medal of Honor (MOH) recipient Master Sgt. Charles L. McGaha. Seats are available for the event, which is set for Monday, May 4, at the Crown Plaza Hotel at 401 West Summit Hill Drive in Knoxville.
McGaha, who was born in Cosby on Feb. 26, 1914, served with Company G, 35th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division of the US Army.
According to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, McGaha displayed “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity. His platoon and one other from Company G were pinned down in a roadside ditch by heavy fire from five Japanese tanks supported by 10 machine guns and a platoon of riflemen.”…
