Knox County sheriff apologizes after fallen deputy’s unit number reassigned, it will remain retired

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The unit number of fallen Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputy Tucker Blakely will remain retired, said Sheriff Tom Spangler on Saturday.

The number, Echo-19, was originally retired in 2023. Recently, however, Spangler learned that the number was reassigned on patrol for the first night back on rotation for echo shift. He said he was investigating how this had happened.

“Let me be clear—so long as I remain Sheriff, that decision will not change. ‘Echo-19’ will remain retired in honor of Tucker Blakely,” Spangler said…
