Man arrested after fire outside Market Square restaurant in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A man has been arrested and charged with arson after Knoxville firefighters responded to a fire in a room behind Café 4 in downtown Knoxville on Thursday.

The Knoxville Fire Department said Steven Paul Spencer, 36, was arrested on charges of aggravated arson and unlawful drug paraphernalia.

Firefighters responded the Market Square at 6:23 a.m. Thursday because of a report of smoke behind Café 4, which is located at 4 Market Square.

When firefighters arrived, the found that there had been small fire in a room off the rear of the building. The building’s sprinkler system activated and contained the fire, which caused minimal damage to the exterior of the business.
