Freezing temperatures are possible Saturday night for some ahead of a big Sunday warm-up with enhanced fire danger.
- Tonight: Clear and cold with a frost or freeze for some as winds taper off. Low: 35°.
- Sunday: Very dry with a slight breeze and warmer. Enhanced fire danger. High: 69°.
- Sunday night: Not as cold and quiet. Low: 49°.
- Monday: Moisture and temperatures increase. Breezy. High: 74°.
Breezy north winds will settle tonight, which will help with our fire weather situation briefly. Decreasing winds with clear skies will also set the stage for more frost and freeze potential heading into Sunday morning. Most areas will fall to the middle 30s; however, our counties in Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia, and in the Smokies are expecting a freeze. Make sure to protect any outdoor plants.
With very dry air in place and mostly sunny skies, a quick warm-up is expected Sunday afternoon. Most areas will end up in the upper 60s to near 70. The very dry air, slight southerly breeze, and ongoing drought conditions will give us enhanced fire danger. Conditions are right for fires to start and spread rapidly.
Sunday evening and overnight will be a bit milder, in the upper 50s much of the evening before bottoming out in the upper 40s/lower 50s by Monday morning. The southerly winds will continue to increase into Monday…
