KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — With the Knox County primary elections less than a month away, candidates vying to be the county’s next sheriff participated in a public debate on Monday.
Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Detectives David Amburn, former KCSO deputy and former federal agent Mike Davis, former KCSO Assistant Chief Deputy and Tennessee football player Brent Gibson, and former Knox County Sheriff Jimmy “JJ” Jones took part in a Knox County Sheriff’s debate held by the Greater Knoxville Hospitality Association. 6 News spoke with each candidate before the debate to ask them why they are running for sheriff.
“The people in Knox County are my extended family,” said Davis. “And it’s a calling for me, to protect and serve them.”
