He’s a member of Blount County Model Aviators — a club that’s celebrated the art of model airplanes for decades. For years, they’ve flown from a miniature runway at the Alcoa/Maryville/Blount County Sanitary Landfill, hosting cookouts, flying circles around the region and enjoying the camaraderie of a shared interest.
Now, they need to find a new home. A few weeks ago, landfill staff sent the club a letter alerting the club it had 90 days to move off the little strip it has used for more than 20 years. So the model aviators are in the market for a new home…
