Knox County Schools to vote on Northwest Middle improvement plan

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knox County School Board is scheduled to vote on the Northwest Middle School improvement plan during the meeting on Thursday.

According to the plan, a state assessment showed that the school hasn’t consistently implemented KCS’s Instructional Framework. It also needs to implement Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) strategies which are meant to help students with disabilities. Two of the priorities listed in the plan are to better implement these.

The plan lists specific action steps for each priority. For example, to help with the school’s goal of better implementing KCS’s Instructional Framework, the plan suggests using district-developed pacing calendars and district-adopted High-Quality Instructional Materials.

The state assessment also said the school needed to have better language development for people learning English and better implement academic vocabulary instruction. Finally, it said in needed to more consistently implement systems around behavior, attendance, and climate.

Therefore, the school plan also prioritizes helping English learners, strengthening academic vocabulary and higher-order thinking, and decreasing chronic absenteeism while ensuring consistent behavior expectations and implementing restorative practices…
