Family gains access to late Wayland mother’s medical records amid wrongful death lawsuit against husband

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A West Michigan family seeking answers about how a Wayland mother died has been granted access to her medical and therapy records.

One year ago, 13 ON YOUR SIDE first reported on the death of Sarah Shanks, 41, a Wayland native who died after collapsing in her driveway in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Following her death, her parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her husband, Ryan Shanks, an emergency room doctor. The lawsuit accuses him of causing her death and failing to render appropriate aid to save her life…
