Inside the newly approved state budget – Oak Ridge projects

Tennessee lawmakers have approved a $58.3 billion state budget for the year. It includes millions of dollars to be spent on Oak Ridge projects or connected to work underway or slated for the city’s future.

Here are three of the funded projects in the state’s newly approved budget:

  • $3 million for a new building at the Oak Ridge Nuclear Innovation Campus;
  • $10 million to buy the Clark Center Park property in Oak Ridge to open a new state park; and
  • $25 million to increase the Nuclear Energy Fund to recruit nuclear tech companies. Many such companies have announced they’re coming to Oak Ridge.

Legislators cut more than $282 million from Gov. Bill Lee’s proposal to fund legislative priorities — including a summer food program for which Lee declined to seek federal funding.

Lee initially made a $57.9 billion proposal, then came back with new additions last month, to which lawmakers made significant changes. In total, lawmakers trimmed state spending by about $1.5 billion since last year…
