Knoxville police launch ‘Project TLC’ zone in Lonsdale area to curb gun violence

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Police Department and the Knoxville Office of Community Safety launched a new “Project TLC” zone in the Lonsdale community on Monday, following a review of fatal and non-fatal shooting data over the last five years.

KPD said during those five years, there were four deadly shootings and eight non-fatal shootings in the area. There were also nearly 1,600 calls for service in the Lonsdale community from March 1, 2024, through March 1, 2026, according to the department.

KPD and the city said Project TLC is a “holistic approach to deterring violence and improving quality of life in areas disproportionately impacted by crime,” with a focus on gun violence.
