KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville officials have approved the next step in a long-planned effort to improve safety along a busy stretch of Chapman Highway, along with several housing, preservation and downtown infrastructure initiatives.
On Tuesday, the Knoxville City Council authorized Mayor Indya Kincannon to agree to begin design work for the Chapman Highway project, which will target a 0.75-mile section between Blount Avenue and Woodlawn Pike. The upgrades are funded primarily through a $17 million federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant, with the city contributing a $4.25 million local match.
