Cattywampus Parade & Block Party returns to Suttree Landing Park

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A unique parade and community event is returning to Suttree Landing Park in South Knoxville later this month.

The ninth annual Cattywampus Parade & Block Party will take place Sunday, May 17. The New Orleans-inspired parade is free and open to all, with participants encouraged to bring their own puppets, masks, costumes, and other art.

Parade participants will begin lining up at the Suttree Landing Pavilion at 2 p.m. before it begins one our later. A pre-parade river flotilla will travel down the Holston and French Broad Rivers to meet at the Tennessee River and gather more paddlers at the McWherter Boat Ramp before heading to Suttree Landing.

The block party will take place from 2-6 p.m. on the Suttree Landing Festival Lawn featuring food vendors and live performances by local musicians and artists. It will also feature art, play and ecology activities by organizations including Great Smoky Mountains Park, the Knoxville Arts Center, Centro Hispano, and Ijams Nature Center.
