Mechanic warns of safety risks as LA ends inspection stickers

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — As Louisiana prepares to eliminate traditional vehicle inspection stickers, one Lafayette mechanic says the change could lead to more unsafe vehicles on the road and fewer opportunities to catch problems before they become serious.

Brian Fournet, owner of Fournet’s Winnwood Chevron, says annual inspections do more than satisfy a state requirement. He says they help identify basic safety issues that many drivers may not notice on their own.

“When you get the traditional inspection sticker, you get the basics checked,” Fournet said. “The lights, the tires, the exhaust system, the windshield wipers, all that stuff is important to having a basically safe car.”…
