They came to Lafayette to start fresh. 15 years later, their sushi is a local favorite.

The menu is long, with pages of sushi rolls named “Stephanie’s Favorite,” or the “UL roll” — selections that speak to the creativity and local connections that Fuji Sushi House is known for.

While the choices are many, everything at Fuji Sushi is made fresh by hand by sushi chef Thongsy Hemsouvanh, who goes by “Tik.” Her wife, Pimtanis Worawongrata (known as “Ginger”) runs the front of house, greeting each guest like family, with jokes, hugs and friendly banter.

They have become community fixtures in the 15 years since Fuji Sushi opened in Lafayette, creating the kind of restaurant that feels like a comfortably lived-in dining room.

“I can’t believe it’s been this long,” said Worawongrata. “I never realized until people came in and said, ‘Has it been 15 years already?'”…
