Lafayette has some amazing Happy Hour spots, and we’ve identified 9 that the folks who live around here support with extreme conviction almost every day.
Happy Hour is a bit of a misnomer, like Government Intelligence, it’s not exactly what you think it is. Sure, the “Happy” part is right on target, but the “Hour” part is a lot misleading. “Y’all know we ain’t limiting our drinking to just 60 minutes,” said a wise Cajun man who bought me my first drive-thru daiquiri about 40 years ago. Yeah, this “hour” spans several.
What Makes a Good Happy Hour a Great Happy Hour?
Based on our conversations with you, what determines a good happy hour is naturally the drink special. Do they have a deal on what you like to drink? If it’s nine for one Zimas, not a lot of folks will go, but if it’s something that tastes better than colon prep, yeah, we’ll show up for extra bottles of beer, pitchers of draft beer, frozen cocktails, snacks, treats, and of course wine for the ladies.
Another aspect of a good Happy Hour is who else will show up. If it’s your tribe and groups of like-minded individuals, it’s a party. If it’s some stodgy group of anal-retentive politicos who only want to complain about the state of the world we live in, then maybe a different venue would be more appealing.
