St. Landry Parish flood victims can now meet 1-on-1 with FEMA representatives

WASHINGTON, La. (NEWS 15) — Federal Emergency Management Agency officials set up a disaster aid center in Washington to assist St. Landry Parish residents whose homes were flooded by Tropical Storm Arthur, as Avoyelles and St. Landry parishes continue cleanup and recovery efforts following more than 20 inches of rain three weeks ago.

The storm left knee-high water across parts of northern St. Landry Parish in less than 24 hours, affecting thousands of homeowners — many of whom had no flood insurance coverage.

Only about 2,300 of roughly 19,000 homeowners in St. Landry Parish carried flood insurance, leaving the vast majority to recover without a financial safety net…
