Demolition underway on historic, partially collapsed Coburn Supply building in downtown Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — Demolition began on the historic Coburn Supply building in downtown Lafayette on Friday, about two months after the structure partially collapsed during heavy rainfall.

Workers began tearing down the building’s remaining three walls. The Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority stated that two other historic buildings on the same property will be maintained.

The authority noted it originally intended to preserve the Coburn Supply building as well, but decided to demolish it due to safety concerns…
