Complaint claims Lafayette school workers were paid for days off, requests investigation

A Lafayette Parish resident has filed a complaint asking the District Attorney’s Office to investigate Lafayette Parish School Superintendent Francis Touchet for paying some school employees for days they didn’t work.

Suzanne Higginbotham filed the complaint Monday with the DA’s office in the 15th Judicial District in Lafayette and said she plans to file a complaint with the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office as well.

The complaint asks for an investigation into Touchet’s implementation of the 2026 summer work schedule and whether Touchet exceeded the authority granted him by the school board, resulting in the unauthorized expenditure of public funds and possible violation of Louisiana law, board policy and board-approved employment terms…
