Lafayette Fire Department remembers creation of 9/11 memorial

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — As we approach the 25th anniversary of the attacks in New York on Sept. 11, 2001, local officials honor the more than 3,000 people who perished on that fateful day.

In Lafayette, a permanent memorial stands at Parc San Souci.

In 2001, a public works employee named Richard Breaux proposed the idea, and along with the approval of his supervisors, the effort to bring a part of America’s history to Acadiana began.
