The American Cancer Society held its annual Black & White Gala on Aug. 22 at the Doubletree in Lafayette. The elegant event celebrated 15 years of fighting cancer and funding research for a cure. Guests and honorees dressed in their finest formal attire for a night of dinner, dancing and glamour. Think black and/or white tuxedos and formal gowns galore.
Each year, the Black & White Gala honors outstanding individuals in the community as Spirit of Hope Honorees. These honorees are nominated by their peers and include cancer survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals and individuals who have had a significant impact on the Acadiana and cancer communities.
Those honored included healthcare professionals Dr. Safi Haq, Dr. Wissam Hanayneh and Allison Bertand. Cancer survivors Troy Hebert, Edi Comeaux, Pastor Ricky Morgan, Nicole Smith and Doug Adams. Advocate Karen King and posthumous honoree Ross Granger. Granger was a beloved Erath athlete and student who lost his life at just 19 years old after a battle with brain cancer…
