Letters: Here’s hoping that SpaceX is committed to protecting the coast

It has been reported that the 130,000 acres in Vermilion Parish the state received in the recent ExxonMobil settlement for coastal restoration has been sold to SpaceX for $100 million, or approximately $800 per acre.

Is the sale of public lands to third parties without competitive public bidding permitted? Would this transaction be considered a private sale of public lands?

I understand the vital economic importance of this sale and assume it may have been covered by the agreements passed by the Legislature…
