RICHARD, La. (KLFY) — Relics of Servant of God Charlene Marie Richard have returned home to the Diocese of Lafayette after being in Rome as part of her Cause for Canonization. Father Seth Lemaire recently brought the relics, including portions of Charlene’s hair and bones , back from Rome, where they had been as part of the canonization process.
Upon their return to Lafayette, the relics were formally received at the Chancery by Barbara De Jean, Diocesan Archivist, and Stephanie Simon, Associate Archivist, and are now safely housed in the Diocese of Lafayette’s Office of Archives.
For their journey from Rome, the relics were carefully secured in protective containers to ensure their safe transport. They will now be appropriately preserved and placed in a reliquary, a sacred vessel traditionally used by the Church to safeguard and honor the relics of holy men and women.
Known affectionately throughout Acadiana as the “Little Cajun Saint,” Charlene was born in 1947 and grew up in Richard, Louisiana. In 1959, at just 12 years old, she was diagnosed with leukemia…
