Race for the 15th Judicial District Attorney; Landry touts success of his office, Earles wants to bring change

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Public officials in Acadia, Vermilion and Lafayette parishes are presenting contrasting viewpoints on the performance and reform needs of the local justice system. Don Landry, who took office in January 2021, is emphasizing ongoing crime reduction efforts, while Kristian Earles is calling for change to address a lack of jury trials.

Landry pointed to multi-parish cooperation as central to maintaining community safety.

“We have reduced crime in Acadia, Vermilion and Lafayette parishes by working with law enforcement,” Landry said. In contrast, Earles described the court schedule in Lafayette Parish as critically delayed, stating, “We’re in a crisis in which uh we hardly have any trials in Lafayette.”…
