Lafayette shuts down Express Inn amid crime concerns

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Law enforcement officers responded to almost 2,000 calls for service and police reports at the Express Inn over a three-year period, according to Lafayette Consolidated Government reports. During that time, authorities recovered 17 firearms and more than $114,000 in street-value narcotics from the property.

The enforcement comes as municipal leaders work to reduce a backlog of blighted and dangerous properties throughout Lafayette. According to LCG, when the Boulet administration took office, officials inherited approximately 1,200 backlogged cases involving dilapidated, dangerous, blighted and abandoned properties. They say the city currently handles around 40 cases per month and is closing more cases than it opens for the first time in years.
