Lafayette Utility System director named Louisiana Energy and Power Authority board chairman

Director Jeffrey Stewart of the Lafayette Utilities System has been named chairman of the Louisiana Energy and Power Authority Board of Directors for 2024.

Stewart has been on the Board since 2016, and previously served as secretary/treasurer of the board in 2022 and vice chairman in 2023. Stewart earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Louisiana State University in 2001 and began his career at LUS as an electrical engineer.

Stewart was appointed chief electrical engineer and later engineering and power supply manager. Serving as the director of LUS, he manages a $240 million annual budget while supervising more than 460 full-time employees.

“Jeff has been serving on the LEPA Board for more than seven years and is always willing to share his experience and expertise with other LEPA municipalities,” said LEPA General Manager Kevin Bihm. “Lafayette, our largest member, has always been an integral part of the LEPA organization, and we are happy to have Jeff lead the board this year.”
