Paralyzed domestic shooting victim gets new home, receives shower gurney from church

LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY )– Things are starting to look up for Deangela Celestine, 28, a single mother of seven who was shot several times by her ex-boyfriend before he committed suicide. Now she is paralyzed from the waist down. Celestine now has a new home, and Spirit of Liberty Church gifted her with a gurney.

“I had the shower gurney in my house for about four years and I tried it like whatever to try to sell it, and I never could sell it,” Randy Hopkins, the donor of the shower gurney, said. “So I put it in a corner and it stayed in a corner for four years until we had a meeting at church and one of the members stood up and she talked about Miss Celestine and being paralyzed and when she mentioned it right then and there, I knew where the shower gurney needed to be.”

“I’m going to be actually able to take a shower instead of just a bed bath that I’ve been taking for the last five months,” Celestine said. “I’m very appreciative of it. It’s going to go well with the new house. I just got.”
