Two people shot in Lafayette Sunday night, one by police

LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — Two people were shot in an incident on Evangeline Thruway Sunday night, one of them by a Lafayette Police officer, authorities said.

According to LPD, police were called at about 11 p.m. Sunday to the 1200 block of Evangeline Thruway to investigate reports of a shooting. Police found one person who was shot inside the establishment.

Another suspect arrested in Jan. 24 shooting investigation

Police then conducted a sweep of the immediate area which included a crowd of fleeing bystanders. Authorities said police witnessed a suspect discharging a gun in the area, and an unidentified Lafayette officer then shot the suspect.

Both people were hospitalized in stable condition, police said. The LPD officer who discharged their firearm has been placed on paid administrative leave per LPD protocol.
