LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — Eight people were hospitalized, two of them pedestrians, in a 4-car crash involving an allegedly impaired driver in Lafayette Mardi Gras evening, authorities said.
Lafayette Police said officers responded to the 1200 block of S. Sterling Street at around 5 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a motor vehicle crash involving four vehicles and two pedestrians.

Police said vehicle 1 was traveling on S. Sterling Street when it struck a parked car. This impact caused vehicle 2 to pin one of the pedestrians between it and vehicle 3 and hit the second pedestrian, and then caused vehicle 3 to hit vehicle 4. Vehicles 2, 3 and 4 were parked and unoccupied at the time of the crash, authorities said.
One of the pedestrians was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, the other was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. There were six juveniles in vehicle 1 at the time of the crash, and all six were transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
