Driver arrested in four-vehicle crash on Mardi Gras; seven people taken to hospital

More than five people were transported to the hospital after Lafayette Police Department officers responded to a motor-vehicle crash involving four vehicles and two pedestrians.

According to the preliminary investigation, a vehicle was traveling in the 1200 block of South Sterling Street at 4:57 p.m. Tuesday when it struck a parked car. That car pinned one of the pedestrians between it and a third vehicle, which also was parked. That vehicle hit a second pedestrian, then it hit a fourth vehicle, which also was parked, according to LPD.

Six unrestrained juveniles were in the first at the time of the crash. All six were transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The driver showed signs of impairment and was transported to the Lafayette Police Department and submitted to a breath sample.

The results of that sample was 0.113, above the .08 limit. The driver was arrested and booked into LPCC for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, first offense (with child endangerment), first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, six counts of vehicular negligent injuring, six counts of child passenger Restraint and careless operation with a crash.
