Paul Breaux Middle School interim principal appointed to full-time post

LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — Paul Breaux Middle School in Lafayette has a new leader.

Lafayette Parish School System has announced the appointment of Ryan Martin as principal of the school. Martin has served as acting principal since January.

“I am honored that Superintendent Touchet has the faith and confidence in my abilities to guide Paul Breaux Middle in this next school year and the years to come,” Martin said. “Since coming to Paul Breaux in January, I have been welcomed with open arms by the faculty and students and we look forward to doing great things on our campus.”

The school has been the center of controversy after LPSS voted to move the school’s academic gifted programs as well as the French and Spanish immersion programs to other schools in the parish, leading to fears that the school would be closed altogether.

According to LPSS, Martin began his 21-year career teaching social studies at N.P. Moss Middle School (now David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy ) and Scott Middle School . His administrative roles include dean of students at Lafayette Middle School and assistant principal at W.D. & Mary Baker Smith Career Center and Milton Elementary / Middle School . Martin has also served as an academic specialist for social studies districtwide.
